In The Harbor -Jacob Schroeder

Jacob Schroeder on the Great Wealth Transfer

In the Harbor | Episode 37 featuring Jacob Schroeder

You've seen the headlines: trillions of dollars about to pass from baby boomers to the next generation. Jacob Schroeder sees it differently. He says it's less of a flood and more of a river with levees.

Jacob is Editor in Chief of Fidūcia Press, Founder and Editor of The Advisor Content Collective, and a Contributing Writer at Kiplinger. He also writes The Root of All on Substack, where he covers money, meaning, and the decisions in between.

The real numbers tell a quieter story than the headlines. The average inheritance arrives around age 60, well after most people buy homes, raise kids, or start businesses. Roughly 2% of households may receive about half of all inherited wealth. The average inheritance comes in near $46,000, compared with roughly $700,000 for the top 1%.

Having money doesn't mean feeling confident about it, either. Jacob explains why even a $5 million portfolio doesn't guarantee someone feels ready to retire, and what advisors can say to clients when markets drop and nerves follow.

For RIAs, the conversation turns to content. Jacob talks about how firms find their voice, why consistent writing builds trust before a client ever picks up the phone, and what it takes to turn that body of work into a book.

Joe Zidle In The Harbor Podcast

In this episode of In The Harbor, host Jason Johns and Jacob cover what the inheritance headlines miss, the gap between wealth and retirement confidence, how to talk with clients in a downturn, and how advisors earn trust one article at a time.

Former Blackstone Chief Strategist Joe Zidle on Why AI Spending Is Inflationary, Not Deflationary In the Harbor | Episode 32 featuring Joe Zidle Joe Zidle spent nearly eight years as Chief Investment Strategist at Blackstone's Private Wealth Solutions business, working alongside Byron Wien before succeeding him. Before that: Richard Bernstein Advisors, Merrill Lynch, Ned Davis Research, and a start in U.S. Army military intelligence. Now he runs Zidle Macro Strategy Group, his own independent investment strategy firm, built with a team of AI agents doing the work his old research desks used to do. What we cover: His non-linear path from the Army Reserves to Blackstone's boardrooms, and the career advice he'd give anyone trying to get a seat at the table Why the AI buildout is proving inflationary instead of deflationary, and what that means for Fed policy in 2026 Three left-tail risks for the AI trade: labor-intensive CapEx, the fallout from Anthropic's export restrictions, and Elon Musk's data-centers-in-space timeline The shift from AI "builders" to AI "adopters," and why the SaaS pullback is only getting started Why he thinks "this time is different" almost never holds up historically, and where AI might be the exception What happens to 125 million production and services workers if Optimus-style robots scale Private credit, the most overrated economic indicator, and his biggest market call gone wrong Joe also breaks down the three pillars of his new firm: senior advisory for GPs, outsourced CIO work for RIAs and multifamily offices, and his subscription macro research newsletter.

How a $20 Billion RIA Thinks About Fees, Taxes & Real Risk | Jordan Kienzle, Baker Street In the Harbor | Episode 29 featuring Jordan Kienzle What does it actually take to grow a $20 billion independent RIA? Jordan Kienzle, Partner and Chair of the Investment Committee at Baker Street Advisors, pulls back the curtain on how fiduciary wealth management really works — and why most investors are quietly losing money to fees and taxes they don't even know they're paying. Jordan managed hundreds of millions for retirees at U.S. Bank during the 2008 financial crisis at age 22. That formative experience shaped everything: his view of risk, client psychology, and what alignment really means in wealth management. In this episode we cover: → Why Baker Street grew from $6B to $20B in a decade → The "two silent killers" eating your portfolio: fees and taxes → How to think about alternatives without getting burned → Managing concentrated stock positions for ultra-high-net-worth clients → Why secondary strategies are outperforming right now → The biggest market misconception investors have today Whether you're an advisor, investor, or just trying to understand how the best RIAs think — this one's worth your full attention.
